Reconciliation

  • An explanation of the term reconciliation: To fix a broken friendship, We must remember and change as a community.

  • New information/ideas that you learned throughout the week: Indigenous kids were taken from their homes and sent to a school where they were taught that everything about them is bad and to forget their old life. They were only allowed to see their parents once or twice a year. They were not even allowed to wave at their siblings! There was A LOT and I mean A LOT of child abuse.

  • At least one suggestion about how our school can create a more inclusive environment that recognizes Indigenous teachings, history, and culture.
    • We can make a greater effort to learn about what happened to the Indigenous people. We need to make sure that this does not happen in the future. We can’t just move on with our day, we need to think about and prevent future events from happening.Phyllis Webstad Orange Shirt Day Presentation
